Formula 1 star receives totting up ban

15/10/2025

Ex-Formula 1 driver Mark Blundell has been banned from driving for six months after his licence was endorsed with penalty points for a speeding offence.

On November 30, 2024, Blundell was caught driving a Land Rover at 96mph, 26mph over the speed limit, on the A14 in Cold Ashby, Northamptonshire.

The 59-year-old did not attend the hearing held at Northampton Magistrates’ Court on October 8. After his lawyer had entered a guilty plea on his behalf, the court added 5 penalty points to his driving licence, and imposed a mandatory 6-month driving ban, in line with totting up rules. The court ordered him to pay a fine, a victim surcharge and court costs, totalling £1042.

Mark Blundell had a successful 19-year career as a racing driver, competing in F1, Le Mans and the CART series in the United States. A high point in his career came in 1992, when he won the 24 Hours of Le Mans race. After retiring from racing, he founded a sports management company, and for 6 years worked as an analyst for ITV’s Formula One.
