A 33-year-old Tesco delivery driver has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.
On the afternoon of Monday, September 29, a woman pedestrian was struck by a Tesco delivery van in Garth Hill, Bangor. Paramedics were called to attend to her injuries, but were unable to save her. The man arrested remains in police custody as investigations continue.
North Wales Police closed Garth Hill as they undertook forensic investigations at the scene of the accident. They have also appealed to the public, asking any witnesses, including other drivers with relevant dashcam footage, to come forward and support the investigation. The police have expressed their condolences to the victim’s family and friends, and have contacted her next of kin.
Causing death by dangerous driving is a very serious offence. It is an indictable only offence, meaning that it must be heard in the Crown Court. The maximum sentence is life imprisonment, an unlimited fine, and a mandatory driving ban of at least five years, with an extended retest required before the offender can resume driving.
