Operation Trimburg showing signs of success across Kirklees

24/09/2025

Police in the Kirklees area are showing ongoing willingness to implement actions in line with Operation Trimburg, an initiative aimed at making the region’s roads safer for all users.

The joint strategy established by the West Yorkshire Combined Authority, Vision Zero, aims completely to eliminate fatalities and serious injuries from the region’s roads.

In line with these aims, the initiative has been implemented more widely across the Kirklees region since March 2025, following its successful trialling in parts of Dewsbury, Batley and Spen in 2024.

The data collated in relation to Operation Trimburg, covering the period from March to August 2025, reveal the scale of the problem, and the very real need for tackling these offences. A total of 953 traffic offence reports were issued for a variety of driving offences. These included speeding, driving without due care and attention, driving while using a mobile phone, and driving a vehicle with defective tyres. Over the 6 months, police seized a total of 60 vehicles, some of them uninsured, untaxed, or stolen. Some vehicles were seized following evidence of anti-social driving. 12 drivers in the region were also arrested for drug driving, drink driving, theft and other offences.
