A man from Dorking, Surrey has been jailed after pleading guilty to a number of charges, including drug driving.
On December 15, 2024, Sussex Police stopped a Ford Transit van in Crawley, suspecting it was displaying cloned number plates. The driver, 49-year-old Lee Coleman, was arrested and tested for drug use. The police used a DrugWipe, which can detect traces of drugs from saliva and sweat.
This indicated that Coleman had indeed been using drugs. He was subsequently required to undergo a blood test, which confirmed that his blood contained cocaine at levels above the legal limit.
At the time of his arrest, Coleman was already disqualified from driving, and admitted to cloning the number plates in an attempt to avoid detection. He was charged with a number of driving offences and with fraud charges relating to the fake number plates.
Coleman plead guilty to all charges in Crawley Magistrates Court on June 2, 2025, and was sentenced to 15 weeks in prison and disqualified from driving for a period of 5 years and 9 months.
