Driver jailed for causing death of young woman

06/07/2025

At a hearing in Cambridge Crown Court, 32-year-old driver Thomas Peggs was sentenced to three years and four months in prison after causing the death of a young mother and a teenage girl.

At his trial in April this year, Peggs had been found not guilty of causing death by dangerous driving and causing serious injury by dangerous driving. He had, however, earlier pleaded guilty to separate cases of causing death and causing serious injury by careless driving.

At around 5pm on Friday, February 3, 2023, Peggs was driving without due care and attention in Gote Lane, Gorefield, when he lost control of his Jaguar XKR. The car crashed into a tree and then burst into flames. Peggs was able to get out of the car, but his 2 passengers were trapped in the burning wreckage.

All three were taken to Addenbrooks Hospital to be treated for their injuries. Grace Robinson, 20, died from her injuries. Macie Hall, 18, survived, but sustained serious injuries from which she has not fully recovered. Peggs was also seriously injured but has made a full recovery.

Peggs has been banned from driving for four years and must then do an extended re-test if he wishes to continue to drive.
