A 29-year-old man from Oldbury, West Midlands has been jailed for causing serious injury by careless driving, driving while disqualified and driving without insurance.
At around 1:30 am on September 22, 2025, the defendant had been driving along Hamstead Road in Handsworth when he lost control of his vehicle, which then mounted the pavement, collided with a pedestrian and hit a brick wall with considerable force. The impact caused the car to rise from the ground and land upright on all four wheels. The driver fled the scene on foot, leaving the pedestrian with serious leg injuries. Sometime later, the injured man was found by members of the public. Emergency services were called and he was taken for treatment. A police investigation eventually identified and located the driver, who was arrested and charged.
Appearing on August 11 at Birmingham Crown Court, he was handed a 16-month jail sentence, and was disqualified from driving for a further two years and eight months. He had pleaded guilty to all charges at an earlier hearing in May.
