Worcestershire man appears charged with causing death by dangerous driving

A man from Malvern in his 30s appeared in Kidderminster Magistrates’ Court on Saturday, June 6, charged with causing death by dangerous driving and failing to supply a blood specimen.
He is accused of causing the death of a woman in her 80s in a horrific accident earlier this year. The accident occurred on Stocks Lane, near Malvern, on January 8, when a Volkswagen ID4, allegedly driven by the defendant, collided with a Mercedes A160. The crash also left a man in his 50s with life-changing injuries.
Following his arrest, the defendant was taken to Worcester Police Station. Believing that he may have been driving under the influence of drink or drugs, the police requested a blood sample, which it is alleged he failed to provide.
The offence of causing death by dangerous driving is triable only on indictment, with a maximum penalty of life imprisonment. The case has therefore been sent to Worcester Crown Court, where a plea and trial preparation hearing has been scheduled for July 7. The defendant has been remanded in custody pending his next court appearance.
