Court extends driving ban for disabled man

12/06/2026

Appearing in Chester Magistrates’ Court on June 2, a 49-year-old man from Wallasey Village pleaded guilty to a charge of driving while disqualified.

On April 21 this year, the man was driving along the A483 in Chester when he was pulled over by police officers. When making checks on the man and his vehicle, officers discovered he had been disqualified from driving, after accumulating 12 or more penalty points on his licence. He was arrested on suspicion of driving while disqualified.

Duty solicitor Michael Evans told the court that the defendant, who is disabled, had been in a period of recovery, and had been placed in emergency accommodation. Amidst the many difficulties and challenges of his life, he was unaware that he was under a driving ban at the time of his arrest. Mr. Evans impressed on the court that a further driving ban would have a huge impact on his client because of his disability.

The court ordered the defendant to pay a fine of £200, a surcharge of £80 and court costs of £85. His driving ban was extended by 13 weeks, and he will be unable to resume driving until September 2026.
