Motorcyclist to face Crown Court over death of grandmother

03/06/2026

A motorcyclist has appeared in Carlisle Magistrates’ Court charged with causing the death of a grandmother and seriously injuring her grandchild.

On Tuesday, May 26, 22-year-old Keiran Yorke was riding a 2018 Husqvarna 701 Enduro motorcycle in the Cleator Moor area when he struck Gillian Livingstone and her grandchild. Sadly, Ms. Livingstone was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident, and her grandchild is undergoing hospital treatment for serious head injuries.

The court heard how Yorke had been driving dangerously and had no licence or insurance. He is facing four charges: causing death by dangerous driving, causing serious injury by dangerous driving, driving without insurance and driving otherwise than with a licence.

Yorke did not enter any pleas, and his case was committed to Carlisle Crown Court, where he is scheduled to appear on June 26. He was released on conditional bail, with conditions including a prohibition from driving on public roads, and a prohibition from entering the geographical area where the incident occurred. He is subject to a nighttime curfew and is forbidden to contact either the prosecution witnesses or the two other men arrested in connection with the same incident. He has also been ordered to live at a specified address different from the address given in court.
