Man arrested after child dies in multi-vehicle crash

A man in his 60s has been arrested after an 8-year-old boy died in a horrific road accident in Cornwall on Friday, May 29.

The accident, which involved multiple vehicles, occurred on the A30 near Connor Downs, Cornwall, shortly before 11:00 am.

The incident has also left a 5-year-old boy with serious injuries. He is undergoing treatment in Bristol Children’s Hospital, and his condition has been described as critical. Two women, one in her 40s and another in her 70s, also sustained injuries in the crash and were taken to Derriford Hospital for treatment. The younger of the two women has now been discharged. The two children and both women were travelling in the same vehicle.

A local man in his 60s, who suffered minor injuries in the collision, was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving, along with causing serious injury by dangerous driving. He has been released pending further investigation into the cause of the accident. Devon and Cornwall Police have issued a statement asking the public to avoid speculating on the cause of the accident. They have asked for witnesses with relevant information to come forward.
