A Telford driver with previous convictions for drink driving has been sent back to jail.
On April 8, 35-year-old Christopher Delo was caught driving while over the prescribed alcohol limit. Delo was stopped by police, who administered a roadside breath test. He was found to have 55 micrograms of alcohol per 100 ml of breath, which is 20 micrograms above the legal limit. He was already disqualified from driving at the time of the offence.
Delo had a history of drink driving offences. He was jailed in January 2023 for 16 weeks after being convicted of drink driving, and was caught reoffending 6 months later. He was then handed a suspended sentence.
Appearing in Telford Magistrates’ court, Delo pleaded guilty to driving while disqualified and driving while above the legal alcohol limit. He was sentenced to 18 weeks in prison, and disqualified from driving for a period of 5 years.
Alcohol is a factor in many road deaths and injuries, with 260 deaths connected to drink driving in 2023 alone. Police and courts are taking drink driving very seriously and imposing substantial sentences, particularly for repeat offenders.
