Glandyfi man fined for careless overtake

Appearing in Llanelli Magistrates’ Court on March 3, 62-year-old Steven Phillips of Lletynewydd was fined £440 following a conviction for careless driving. He was also given six licence points and ordered to pay £130 in costs and £176 surcharge.

On August 8, 2025, Phillips was driving along the A487 at Bow Street when he attempted to overtake two cyclists. The court heard how the manoeuvre was “made at an unsafe distance with on-coming vehicles travelling in the opposite lane.”

Phillips turned his Hyundai i10 into the path of oncoming traffic, forcing them to move towards the grass verge to avoid a collision. The incident was recorded on a cyclist’s helmet camera, providing the police with clear evidence that Phillips had been driving without due care and attention.
