North Yorkshire hit and run driver jailed

Appearing in Teeside Crown Court on February 2, 37-year-old Craig Pollock was sentenced to three years and four months in prison for causing serious injury by dangerous driving.

The incident, which occurred on November 5, 2025, has left a 68-year-old man with life-changing injuries. Pollock also received a five-year driving ban, and must take an extended retest before he can resume driving.

The court heard how Pollock, from Highbank Road in Ormesby, had entered a white BMW on Fulbeck Road at around 6:40 pm, despite bystanders’ attempts to stop him. He then drove away towards the junction with Cargo Fleet Lane, with the driver’s door still open.

Entering Cargo Fleet Lane at speed, and joining the wrong traffic lane, he struck an elderly pedestrian who was crossing the road. The pedestrian was thrown into the air and suffered serious injuries, including fractures to his neck, skull, shoulder and pelvis.

Pollock failed to stop, racing away from the scene of the accident. Moments later, in Ormesby Road, he collided with a grey Mitsubishi, causing serious damage to the vehicle and minor injuries to an occupant. Police investigations revealed that he had been driving under the influence of drugs. At the time of the accident, the level of diazepam in his blood was above the legal limit.
