Fleetwood man jailed for driving offences and possession of drugs

03/01/2026

At a hearing on December 11 in Preston Crown Court, Wesley Austin was handed a custodial sentence following his conviction for a string of motoring offences and drug possession.

Austin, 32, of Windsor Terrace, Fleetwood, had been found guilty of driving other than in accordance with a licence, driving without insurance, driving without due care and attention, and being in possession of a Class B controlled drug. Police commented that his 8-month jail sentence reflected the seriousness of his behaviour. He was also banned from driving for a period of 16 months.

The Lancashire Talking door-to-door surveys conducted by Lancashire Constabulary, which began in 2020, had highlighted road safety as a major community concern in the Fleetwood area. Following Austin’s conviction, the police made a statement emphasising their strong commitment to targeting those who pose a risk to the community by ignoring driving laws.

Careless driving, which is also described as driving without due care and attention, although a less serious offence than dangerous driving, can nevertheless have devastating life consequences. Police are making significant efforts to improve road safety standards across the county in response to community concerns.
