A lorry driver from Swansea will appear at Swindon Magistrates’ Court on November 4, following a road traffic accident in Wiltshire.

At around 2 am on October 17, 44-year-old Michael Maddick overturned his lorry on the A350 in Chippenham. Maddick was trapped in the vehicle and emergency services were called to the scene. He was charged the same day with driving a vehicle while unfit through drugs, and was then released on bail by Wiltshire Police, pending the court hearing. If convicted, Maddick will be given a mandatory driving ban of at least 12 months. He could also receive a fine and/or a custodial sentence up to a maximum of 6 months.

The recovery of the lorry was described as “complex” by the police, who closed the road for several hours to allow emergency services to work unhindered. Severe traffic disruption occurred near the M4 in Wiltshire as a result of the accident.
