Michael Webb, 35, of Park Avenue, South Shields, has admitted causing the deaths of a father and young son in a road traffic accident.

Appearing in Newcastle Crown Court on October 3, Webb admitted to causing the deaths of the two victims, but claimed that his driving was careless, and did not meet the more serious legal threshold of dangerous driving.

Peter Webb, 40, and his son Ben, 12, were killed in a crash on August 30 in South Shields. The accident occurred at around 9 pm near the New Mill Inn. At the time of the incident, Michael Webb was driving along John Reid Road while over the legal limit for cocaine and a cocaine breakdown product. He has been bailed, pending a trial that will be held at Newcastle Crown Court on May 26, 2026. He will also attend pre-trial hearings on 15 January and 7 May.
