Harry Potter stars banned from driving on the same day

18/07/2025

Two stars of the Harry Potter film franchise have been banned from driving on the same day, and in the same court, as each other.

Emma Watson, who shot to fame in 2001 playing Hermione Granger in the Harry Potter film series, was banned at a hearing on July 16 at High Wycombe Magistrates Court. With the judge having fined her £1044 and adding 3 points to her licence, this brought Watson’s total to 12 points, triggering a mandatory driving disqualification for 6 months.

On July 31, 2024, Watson was driving caught driving at 38mph in a 30mph zone. She had already pleaded guilty to the offence, and did not attend the 5-minute sentencing hearing.

In a strange twist of fate, Harry Potter co-star Zoe Wanamaker was also disqualified from driving in the same court on the same day. She had been caught speeding on August 7, 2024, on the M4 in Newbury. 76-year-old Wanamaker was also given a £1044 fine and 3 points on her licence, taking her total up to 12 and attracting a driving ban.

Totting-up rules mean that 12 or more licence points within a 3-year period attract a minimum 6-month driving disqualification. If you are facing a ban because of totting up, solicitors at Auriga Advocates are well placed to support and advise you on how to proceed with your case.
