
Hampshire Police have arrested a 20-year-old driver from Sway on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving, after injuring two cyclists on the road.
On Sunday, May 25, two cyclists from London were seriously injured in a collision with a Vauxhall Corsa. The accident occurred at around 6 pm in Wootton at the junction between Brocklehurst Road and Burley Road. The cyclists, aged 49 and 52, sustained serious injuries and were taken to hospital for treatment.
Hampshire Police has requested that anyone who saw the incident or the moments leading up to the collision should contact them as soon as possible. The police are keen to see any dash-cam footage which may be relevant to the investigation.
Causing serious injury by dangerous driving can be tried in either the Magistrates Court or the Crown Court. The maximum penalty in the Magistrate’s Court is a Level 5 fine and/or a custodial sentence of six months with licence endorsement; in the Crown Court, the maximum sentence is five years’ imprisonment. The offence also carries a mandatory driving ban of at least two years and a re-test.
