If you have received a penalty or believe that you have been mistakenly accused of drink driving, our calculator can aid in determining if accusations are inaccurate, or suggest the consequences that you may face.
The drink drive calculator covers the three key types of evidence collected by the Police. These include breathalyser test results, blood test results and urine test results.
Each test is designed to determine if a person was drink driving or not. They specifically relate to the legal limit of alcohol consumed when operating a vehicle.
Our calculator lets you select each type of specimen you supplied and choose the range where your test results fall. This can show you if you exceeded the legal limit, by how much and any potential consequences.
Breathalyser test results
A breathalyser test measures the level of alcohol vapour in breath exhaled to estimate blood alcohol content. The calculator lets you select your breathalyser score by selecting from four different ranges. These include 36 to 59, 60 to 89, 90 to 119 and 120 to 150 micrograms.
In England, Wales and Northern Ireland, the legal limit of alcohol for a breathalyser test is 35 micrograms of alcohol for every 100 millilitres of breath. Readings recorded above the limit can result in a charge and higher readings often lead to more serious penalties.
Blood alcohol test results
A blood alcohol test is designed to measure the concentration of alcohol in a person's bloodstream. They are typically requested when a breathalyser test is not possible and when more accurate measurements are needed. If you provided a blood sample, you can select from four ranges. These include 81 to 137, 138 to 206, 207 to 275 and 276 to 345.
Urine test results
If you gave a urine sample, you can select from several ranges with the calculator. These include 108 to 183, 184 to 274, 275 to 366 and 367 to 459.
In urine samples, the legal threshold is 107 milligrams of alcohol for every 100 millilitres of urine so results that exceed this limit can lead to a charge.
While results can provide an estimate of legal consequence, many other factors can contribute to whether a driver will face a charge and how severe the penalty is.
