Appearing in Nottingham Crown Court on June 18, a 35-year-old woman was handed a 12-year custodial sentence and a lifetime driving ban for causing the death of a food delivery driver.
She had pleaded guilty to causing death by dangerous driving and driving without insurance at an earlier hearing in February.
On October 18, 2025, at around 8:30 am, an off-duty police officer on his way to a football match spotted a Vauxhall Mokka being driven erratically along the A610 towards Nottingham city centre. The driver was speeding and making numerous risky overtaking manoeuvres.
The Mokka, after crossing the Aspley Lane junction and approaching Bobbers Mill Bridge, clipped the wing mirror of another vehicle, then collided with the back of a moped driven by a 20-year-old food delivery driver and father of two. He was thrown into the path of an oncoming vehicle, and died at the scene. The Mokka driver failed to stop, later hitting the back of a taxi, and then colliding head-on with another car, finally bringing her reckless drive to a halt. The off-duty officer, who had himself narrowly avoided a collision with the Mokka, stopped to assist the delivery driver, and called emergency services.
