Premier League star banned from driving

A footballer for Manchester United has been handed a driving ban and handed a fine after a serious speeding offence.

Defender Leny Yoro, who signed to Manchester United in July 2024 for a reported fee of £52.2 million, has been banned from driving for six months.

At around 4pm on August 28, 2025, Yoro was driving a Porsche Cayenne GTS down Mauldeth Road West in Withington, when cameras recorded his car travelling at 72mph in a 30mph zone. It was determined his driving posed a significant danger in a residential area with homes, a sports centre and a secondary school. The ban was not triggered by totting up licence points, but was issued to reflect Yoro’s excessive speed, which was more than double the speed limit.

Yoro did not attend the hearing in Crewe Magistrates’ Court on February 23, but pleaded guilty online, and the case was decided purely on written evidence. He was originally charged with failing to identify the driver of the car, after neglecting to answer a letter sent to his Cheshire home, but this charge was later dropped. He was ordered to pay a fine of £666, court costs of £120 and a victim surcharge of £266.
