Former England rugby star Mark Cueto has had a driving ban overturned in Bolton Magistrates’ Court.
A Mini registered to Cueto, 45, was caught travelling at 38mph in a 30mph zone in Stockport on October 6, 2025. Six points were added to Cueto’s licence, and a six-month driving ban was triggered in line with totting up rules. These provide that if 12 or more points are added to a licence within a three-year period, a mandatory driving ban of at least six months should be imposed. Cueto had also been convicted of failing to provide information about who was driving the vehicle.
At a hearing on November 27, Cueto claimed that he was unaware of the ban, which he said had been issued in his absence. He explained to the court that in the past letters had been stolen from an outside mailbox at his home in Altrincham. He told the court that his wife had filled out a form claiming that she was the driver at the time of the speeding offence, and that he had paid a £1000 fine.
The driving ban and the convictions were overturned, but Cueto will be tried in Wigan Magistrates’ Court next year for failing to provide information relating to a separate speeding offence.
