A driver of a fire engine will appear in court in early 2026 over an incident that resulted in the death of a woman in Cheshire.
Shortly before 7:30 am on March 28, 2025, optometrist Judy Lea was seriously injured when her Lexus NX collided with a fire engine in Alsager, Cheshire. Emergency services were called to the scene, and Ms. Lea was transported to Royal Stoke Hospital. She later died from her injuries.
The 57-year-old fire engine driver, who has not been named, will appear at Crewe Magistrates’ Court on January 23, 2026 to face a charge of causing death by dangerous driving. The victim’s family, in a statement made in April, described how her death had left a huge hole in their lives. Cheshire’s Fire and Rescue Service sent their well wishes to the deceased’s family, but was unable to officially comment on the charges against its driver for legal reasons.
