On Saturday, August 30 at around 8:55 p.m., emergency services were called to a serious road accident on John Reid Road, South Shields. The crash involved a white Skoda Oktavia that had veered off the road, with both victims pronounced dead at the scene. Debris from the accident was strewn across the road, which was closed off following the accident.

Another man who was seriously injured in the crash was taken to hospital. He was later arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving. He is still receiving hospital treatment, but his condition is now described as stable.
