A 20-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving after a motor collision resulted in the death of a 2-year-old boy.
The crash occurred at around 8:15 p.m. on Saturday, August 16 at the Gorrell Tank car park in Whitstable, Kent. Two cars collided on nearby Cromwell Road, near the junction with Harbour Street. One of the cars veered off the road and crashed through the car park barriers, where it hit three pedestrians, a woman, a man and a 2-year-old boy. Kent Police and emergency services were immediately called to the scene. The male pedestrian had sustained serious injuries and was taken to hospital. In spite of efforts by paramedics, the young boy died at the scene.
He was taken into custody but later bailed pending further investigations. Kent Police have asked for any dashcam or CCTV footage that may help them establish the sequence of events that led to the tragedy.
A spokesperson for Canterbury City Council has expressed sympathy and support for those involved in the incident. Specialist officers are working to support the families of the victims.
