Jez Shepherd, 22, of Green Street, Morecambe, appeared at Lancaster Magistrates’ Court on August 12 charged with a total of 8 offences following a fatal road accident in Morecambe.

Shepherd was charged with causing death by dangerous driving, causing death by driving whilst disqualified, causing death by driving whilst uninsured, taking without consent (driver) causing death, burglary dwelling theft, making off without payment, driving whilst disqualified and driving with no insurance.

In the early hours of August 10, police were alerted to a collision between a black Fiat Punto and a white Ford Mondeo taxi on Westgate, Morecambe. The taxi’s back seat passenger, a man in his 50s, was tragically killed in the crash. The 31-year-old taxi driver was also arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving, but later released on bail.

Although a man has now been charged, the investigation into the accident is very much ongoing, and Lancashire Constabulary are asking the public to come forward with relevant dashcam footage and any other evidence that could help the investigation.
