A 65-year-old doctor has been jailed after a car crash resulted in the death of a 40-year-old father of two.

Maciej Stepien lost his life on the morning of November 29, 2022, when a doctor, late for his clinic, made a reckless manoeuvre and collided head-on with Stepien’s motorcycle.

Stepien, who was head of IT at TurfTrax, had made a significant contribution to the development of the company’s IT systems, which are widely used in the horse racing industry. His children were just 4 and 6 years old at the time of his tragic death.

The accident occurred as Dr. Hammanjulde Hammawa, driving on the B645 Chelveston Road near Hargrave, Northamptonshire, crossed double white lines to overtake an HGV. He collided with Stepien’s bike, which was travelling in the opposite direction.

Hammawa, from Biggleswade, Northamptonshire, originally pleaded not guilty to causing death by dangerous driving. However, he changed his plea before the sentencing hearing at Northampton Crown Court on July 15. He was sentenced to three years in prison, and disqualified from driving for a period of six years and six months.
