Spurs centre back gets driving ban

Tottenham Hotspur defender Cristian Romero has been given a mandatory 6-month driving ban after totting up 12 or more penalty points on his licence.

On 11th December 2024, speed cameras caught Romero driving his Lamborghini Uris at 60mph in a 50mph zone on the A 406 in North Finchley. A notice of Intended Prosecution was later sent to his £10 million mansion in Highgate.

Initially, Police considered issuing a fixed penalty notice, but when it became apparent that Romero already had a number of points on his licence, the case was moved to Lavender Hill Magistrates Court, where it was dealt with in a Single Justice Procedure – a fast-track system where hearings are held in private. Magistrates considered written evidence together with evidence from the speed cameras, and Romero entered a guilty plea online.

He received a mandatory 6-month driving disqualification as a result of totting up 12 or more penalty points within a 3-year period. He was also fined £1000, required to pay a £400 victim surcharge, and pay £100 in court costs.

A driving ban can seriously impact on your life, and if you have accrued 12 or more penalty points on your licence within a 3-year period, you face a mandatory driving disqualification for six months or more.
