Two police officers, including one charged with causing death by dangerous driving, are set to go on trial next year following an incident that resulted in a pregnant woman’s death.
A horrific road accident on October 18, 2024 took the lives of a 38-year-old pregnant woman and her unborn child after her vehicle collided with a police car.
As the victim was driving along Eltham Road in south-east London, two police vehicles engaged in a pre-planned operation were travelling along the same stretch of road in the same direction as her car.
One of the police vehicles overtook the Volkswagen at a speed of around 78 mph shortly before the accident, in an area with a 30 mph speed limit. The second police vehicle then struck the victim’s car at approximately 50 mph, causing fatal injuries to the pregnant woman.
The driver of the vehicle that collided with the pregnant woman’s car was charged with the offence of causing death by dangerous driving. He pleaded not guilty to the charge in court on September 18, 2026.
The other officer, whose car overtook the woman’s car, was charged with a less serious dangerous driving offence. He has also entered a plea of not guilty. Unconditional bail has been granted to both officers, who must return to court on January 8. The trial has been set for June 7, 2027.
