A road collision near Derby has left four passengers dead and a driver, now arrested, with serious injuries.
On Saturday, July 25, at around 11 pm, a red Hyundai left the A38 between the A50 Toyota Island and the A516, and careered into some trees. Emergency services closed the carriageway as they dealt with the aftermath of the crash, but it has now reopened.
Medics were called, but the three adult passengers, two women aged 18 and 30, and a man aged 36, were pronounced dead at the scene. A baby girl, who had sustained serious injuries, died shortly after being taken to hospital. The driver, a 33-year-old man, was seriously injured and has been admitted to hospital. Derbyshire Police have since arrested him on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.
The driver and all four passengers were from Leeds in West Yorkshire. Police are continuing to investigate the causes of the accident, and have asked for members of the public who witnessed the crash or are in possession of relevant dashcam footage to contact them with any potential evidence.
