A 23-year-old man has been handed a 13-month jail sentence after pleading guilty to a number of driving offences.
On March 10, 2026, the man had failed to stop for police in Abington Square, Northampton, and tried to escape, leading to a car chase that finally came to a halt on the A45 near Wellingborough.
The police had asked the defendant to stop after his vehicle was identified as having no insurance. Fleeing the police patrol, he passed through a number of red lights, attaining speeds of 70mph in zones with a 40mph speed limit.
Racing along local roads, he then joined the A45 dual carriageway, where his car reached speeds of over 100mph. Approaching the Wilby Way roundabout, he encountered stationary traffic, collided with other vehicles and found himself hemmed in on all sides. Unable to escape, he was arrested and charged with dangerous driving, failing to stop for police, driving otherwise than in accordance with a licence, and driving without insurance.
PC Thomas Williams from Northamptonshire Police’s Roads Policing Team has affirmed that the police will continue proactively to target dangerous drivers, who disregard the safety of others and put lives at risk.
